Australian PlayStation 4 PSN Store Shows Insane Prices For Digital Games

PlayStation 4 is just three days away from launching in Europe along with Australia and other countries. To get things prepared, Sony has officially launched the PlayStation 4 PSN Store for Australian gamers and to their surprise the prices for digital gamers are shooting over the moon.

Both Europe gamers and Australian gamers now share the same fate, the fate of expensive digital games on PSN store compared to their counterpart released in North America. The games are starting from A$89.95 Australian dollars which equals to around $82.70 American dollars. The same game(s) can be had for only$59.99 in North America.

insanepricesExpensive ain’t it? Such prices for digital games will limit gamers to stay with the physical copies of the game which, more or less, will be cheaper than the digital games plus you’ll get a shiny case for your collection. We do hope that later on Sony does consider lowering prices on the PSN store. The UK PSN Store offers the following games with their prices:

  • Angry Birds Star Wars: £32.99
  • Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag: £57.99
  • Battlefield 4: £62.99
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts: £54.99
  • Contrast: £12.79
  • FIFA 14: £62.99
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition: £52.99
  • Just Dance 2014: £42.99
  • Killzone Shadow Fall: £52.99
  • Knack: £52.99
  • Lego Marvel Super Heroes: £52.99
  • Madden NFL 25: £62.99
  • NBA Live 14: £62.99
  • Need for Speed: Rivals: £62.99
  • Putty Squad: £13.99
  • Resogun: £12.79
  • Super Motherload: £11.99
  • Trine 2: Complete Story: £14.49
  • Warframe: free

Do you live in Australia? What are your thoughts about the prices the games are available there? Let us know in the comments below.

easy solution: get a US account and refill it with Paypal. There’s NO reason not to do this. In fact, get a Canadian account since there is no sales tax either. I wish the Japanese account used Paypal

  • Redspeed93

That’s (sadly) nothing compared to the danish prices! FIFA 14 costs 575 DKK which equals to 104.45 USD! The PS4 digital prices START at 89.91 USD or 495 DKK 🙁

i never ever buy digital anyway, id rather a disc plus im saving memory on the HDD 🙂

  • RandomUser2yr29387

Bad article. How about comparing these prices with PS3 and 360?
Not gonna just take your word for it and not interested in this enough to research it myself.

PS4 games at Big W (Aust Department store like Walmart etc) $68 during launch week. Big W did the same thing with Xbox One games when they were similar prices on the Xbox store. Yeah I’ll stick to phyiscal games for a while thanks Sony and Microsoft.

    • SwappingFrom360toPS4

hmm i see the xb1 game at big w for $68… hopefully the PS4 games will be that price.

    The price price of convenience?
Why is this news when it’s been like this forever?

    • meds

It might be convenient for some in regional areas (even then I would be creating a USA psn account and buying US psn codes online to get games for US$60) with no local stores.

But for me with our internet infrastructure (I only get 7mb/ps download and this is good for my area) and the fact that I have 5 shopping centres within a 15 minute drive where I can get games for $68 means this isn’t really that convenient.

These are Australian prices, Sony isn’t charging more than what Aussies pay at retail.

    • meds

$68 at retail in the launch week and then $88 after but some will be doing them for $79. So they are charging more than retail.

You need to consider tjhe cost of living in Australia is much lower, plus we have a higher minimum wage. Yeah it sucks, but PSN always has sales which make for good shopping, otherwise just stick with stores like JB Hifi, they’re usually 30% cheaper than PSN.

‘You need to consider tjhe cost of living in Australia is much lower’

BAHahahaha… you what!!! You obviously do NOT live in Australia matey boy. The cost of living in Australia is astronomical, it’s got some of the most expensive cities in the world. On top of the shafting we get from living costs all software and hardware is 1.5-2x the cost of the US, yet the exchange rate has the dollar nearly on par with the US dollar. And the minimum wage don’t mean dick if you’re getting raped left right and center by the financial system.

And this is why digital will never take over in the Nanny State – Some of the PS Vita games were almost 100 AUD on the Aus PSN when first released as well. Some larger chains over here seem to be lowering their prices now though due to everyone importing, so here’s hoping it starts a new trend for Aussie game prices.

  • Itay

A bit cheaper than the Israeli PSN store, where most games cost the equivalent of 108.35 AUD, and that’s after prices were cut from the PS3 generation. For instance – COD Ghosts for PS4 costs 108.35 AUD, for PS3 it costs 122.5 AUD! And prices are never lowered – COD BO2 costs the same, and even MW3 has the same price tag.

So where were you for the last 30 something years Ali? You know you didn’t stumble upon some big shocking surprise here, right? This price fixing has been going on in Australia for decades. The only reason you or anyone else didn’t know about it is because you didn’t care. So you didn’t find a massive story. What you have done is show your ignorance. What a piss poor excuse for a website this is.

    • GunsAndTheBeast

so angry, with prices like that i would be too. where i live a ps4 cost US$700. so you know..

  • Olly Be

wow 100 bucks for a game sony must be crazy I will stick to hard copy of games for now until sony comes to it’s senses with the digital version prices

    • bigevilworldwide

You do grasp the concept that Sony doesn’t set the prices on PSN correct? 3rd party game prices are set by the publisher….Meaning Sony only sets the prices on Sony Games….Someday everyone will figure that out, just like for games to be made free for PS+ members a deal must be worked out with the publisher, another not Sony call unless it’s a Sony game

  • Yaan Dalzell

This isn’t anything new. GTA5 on PS3 store is $109. We get sh*t on. Fact of life.

    • chrisredfield31

Austrailia’s min wage is like what, 16.88? It takes 6.45/hrs to buy that GTA V. Here in my state of Arizona in the US, the minimum wage is 7.80 and GTA V costs 59.99, so it’ll take 7.69 hours here. We get sh*t on too.

      • Prime157

Definitely one way to look at it.

      • Guest

Not everyone works minimum wage though.
