Telltale’s Batman started off with a bang with the first episode a couple of months back, telling an original story in a different type of Batman game that we haven’t played before. The second episode titled Children of Arkham is finally here, find out below to see if keeps up the momentum.
The second episode starts off with dealing with the aftermath from the end of the first episode. Relationships with the regulars including Catwoman, Vicky Vale, Harvey Dent, etc is explored some more. Players should expect to take some decisions that will end up bad for them anyway, very reminiscent of Telltale’s The Walking Dead game where players often have to choose which characters lives or dies.
Without spoiling anything, I’m very excited to see Telltale’s “major” change to the Batman lore pan out fully. We found out that the rumors from the first episode were true, so watching Bruce deal with them further should be interesting.
As will all Telltale titles on consoles, Batman: The Telltale Series is no different. Most of the issues glaring the first episode are still present including the ever so annoying frame rate dips. The game is based on the developer’s new engine so its sad to see such issues still popping up.
The Batman parts of the episode are once again QTE fests but they’re not boring as the action is nicely choreographed. The different perspectives, camera angles and moves beautifully compliment each other.
I enjoyed Children of Arkham more than the first episode, mainly due to the pace and everything happening. Playtime wise this episode was shorter but the story took a huge leap forward. So far I’m fully engulfed in the game and can’t wait for Episode 3 which should be a blast as things in Gotham take a turn for the very worst.
Batman: The Telltale Series is developed and Published by Telltale Games and distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game is available now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. This review is based on the Playstation 4 version of the game.
Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 2: Children of Arkham Review
Batman: The TellTale Series Episode 2 furthers the story from the first episode and explores the relationship between the characters. Unfortunately the technical issues from the first episode still remain but that doesn't make the underlying narrative any less fun.
