On the 17th of July, fans got a chance to download and play the highly anticipated Destiny Beta. Unfortunately, the Beta did not bring anything new to the table apart from a few new cut scenes and new Crucible Maps. Several fans who took part in the Alpha have been disappointed with the Beta so far but Bungie is planning to spice things up this weekend.

Bungie will be hosting an event this Saturday between 2pm PDT – 4pm PDT / 5pm EDT – 7pm EDT. Destiny Beta players will be able to participate in a competitive multiplayer event in the Crucible which will be called the Iron Banner.

Competing in this event is the only way fans will be able to play on two new Crucible maps. The two new maps that Bungie is introducing for the Iron Banner are Rusted Lands, a location previously available in the Alpha, and Blind Watch, a new map located on Mars.

The matches played in the Iron Banner will be different from your regular Crucible matches as the Level Advantages will be turned on. This means that your offensive and defensive ratings will have an effect on your character build. The victor will also be rewarded within the event.

In Bungie’s Weekly Update, Bungie Designer Lars Bakken said, “Get ready to kick ass. You will be tested here unlike anywhere else in the Beta.” So we can expect to see some tough competition this Saturday.

Before the Beta went live, Bungie’s Community Manager DeeJ did say that Bungie will be adding new content to the Beta as the Beta progresses. Maybe this is how Bungie plans on introducing new maps and hopefully new story mode missions to the Beta.

The Destiny Beta goes live for Xbox 360 and Xbox One on the 23rd of July after a scheduled maintenance which will take place on the 21st and 22nd of July.
