Fallout 4 PC’s Beta Patch 1.3 SSAO vs. HBAO+ And Weapon Debris Effects Comparison

Fallout 4 has received a new Beta patch on PC. Those who want to update to the latest version of the game can install this Beta patch before its public release. You can find instructions on how to install it from here.

As detailed in the full patch notes, this latest patch adds a new ambient occlusion setting to the game in addition to weapon debris, which can enhance the experience and look of the game. This new effect is exclusive to Nvidia graphics cards. You can see it in action in the GIF below.

While this might not add much to the game, it does look good in action, especially in a firefight.

In addition to the Weapon Debris effect, there is also a new ambient occlusion (HBAO+) setting added to the game. This setting adds more depth to the shadows and you can see how it compares to the default settings in the screenshots below, courtesy of reddit user HalfManHalfHunk.

Note: Left = No AO, Middle = SSAO, Right = HBAO+ (Click on each image to open in full screen or check the slider below)

Fallout 4 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Bethesda Softworks hasn’t revealed the date for Patch 1.3 on PS4 and Xbox One but it should be expected in the coming days judging from Patch 1.2 release schedule.

Poor article, nothing is done to measure performance impact, something a lot of us are eager to know.
