Fallout 4 Has A Rather Small Day 1 Patch For PS4 And XBO, Requires 41 GB To Install Full Game

Fallout 4 is getting closer to its official launch and as the release date draws near, we are getting some more info about the game including the size of its day 1 patch and the install size for the full game. As revealed by users who are already playing the game on PS4 and Xbox One, the day 1 patch updates the game to version 1.01. It is also rather small in size compared to your average blockbuster release and requires just 500 MB download.

You can see one such screenshot from the PS4 below, showing the size of the day 1 patch for Fallout 4. We can also see the hard disk requirements for the game, as the full game size is around 41 GB after installing everything on the PS4.

This patch size is reportedly the same for both PS4 and Xbox One. If you are getting Fallout 4 on PC at retail, then be prepared for a huge download on day 1, as the game lacks setup files and these needs to be downloaded first before users can play the game.

A lot of Fallout 4 info has leaked recently including PC screenshots, graphics options, full list of perks and world map.

Fallout 4 is currently set for a release on November 10th for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Wish there was a way to pre-load the update for a physical copy. Last minute idea for me so no preorder. Never played the series but enjoyed Skyrim. Will probably try to find a midnight release, let it download overnight with my slow internet and play in the AM. #struggle

Still can’t decide between Xbox & PlayStation for this one

I have a feeling the controller is going to win out for me, can’t imagine playing 200+ hours with the DS4

    • Clate

Ok? The Xbox version will probably be slightly better due to Bethesda preferring Xbox to Playstation so if your on the fence I would go with that

      • Dave

Wow you are such an Xbox fan boy every comment you say is xbox better. Just wow

    • Hailey

      I can’t imagine playing 400+ hours on the Xb1 controller, so I’ll be playing with DS4. It’s such a comfy controller! :3

      • Michael White

I wish I could say the same

        • Hailey

I have lil hands and find Xbox controller a lil big. Only reason I said what I did cause I think the game experience will be the same on either platform, it’s just the controller.

          • Michael White

Yeah I think it’ll be exactly the same on both consoles for this one too

  • Tyler Watson

I’m still worried it’ll run bad on PS4. I’m a Skyrim PS3 veteran so that says enough. If it runs well, I just pray it doesn’t crash a lot like Skyrim did. Constant random crashing is not tolerable.

    • Aiwass

Christ, totally forgot about that PS3 Skyrim abortion. I’m not stupid enough to pre-order/day one purchase so it’ll be interesting to see how it goes before deciding whether or not to get it.

      • Tyler Watson

        It’s surprisingly stable.

    • TeLin特林

There was a reason it ran poorly on the ps3…the cell processor.

      • Clate

It was also the fact that Bethesda prefers Xbox over Playstation and spent less time optimizing it on the PS3 than the 360.

        • TeLin特林

Possibly, but the ps4 and xbox one are more closely related hardware wise that it shouldn’t be that much of an issue this go around.

      • Tyler Watson

Ik. It was the RAM. At least that’s what Bethesda said.

        • TeLin特林

Was that the same for Fo4?

          • Tyler Watson

Well the thing is PS4 has more than enough RAM. I’m at almost 20mb on my save file and the issues I had in performance is the same as they were when it was at 10.49 mb which is the default memory it starts at, mild hiccups once in a while from the memory increase but that’s it. It takes a high end PC to not see any hiccups. Especially with the engine the use. From what I was told, the Witcher 3 on PS4 runs better than FO4. And Witcher 3 is clustered with content and detail six ways to Sunday unlike FO4. I never played Witcher 3 but I spoke to someone who does.

          • Tyler Watson

Well, Idk to be perfectly honest. But the only way you’ll get flawless performance is with a high end PC.

          • TeLin特林

Why are you answering my questions in different ways every few days/weeks? Lol

          • Tyler Watson

Because I don’t come on here often. Wouldn’t that be it? I don’t come on here religiously like others.

          • TeLin特林

“Because I don’t come on here often”

Is that supposed to mean, “I forgot I was talking to you…several times”

“I don’t come on here religiously like others”

            Someone’s sensitive.

          • Tyler Watson

No. Because I actually don’t. I usually check when this type of comment section is available in the article I read. So until then, I don’t know I was notified a reply. And yes, I have sensitivity. It’s normal. If you aren’t that way, then you have a hardened heart. If you mean I’m more sensitive than normal, explain how, because I don’t understand how that statement you quoted explains it.

          • TeLin特林

Dude…you just replied twice. You have short term memory loss. It’s all good.

          • Tyler Watson

I remember editing my comment but was having issues with Disqus. It was doing an endless loop of “approving” my comment when I saved the edit. So I copy and pasted it and sent it again. So I wouldn’t judge ahead if I were you. But you’re right, I do have short term memory loss but it’s mild. Mainly with names. But my long term memory is as solid as a diamond. The only real issue I have is that my delayed responses concern you when they shouldn’t. It really isn’t a big deal. I can think of more troublesome things than delayed responses and replying the same thing twice.

          • TeLin特林

            Cool. 😎

          • Tyler Watson

I’m only speaking with honesty friend. Peace be with you. God bless.

    • Clate

It will be fine. PS4 is based on PC architecture which Bethesda is very good with. XBOne version probably will have a few less glitches as Bethesda does prefer Xbox to Playstation.

      • Hailey

I think glitch wise, both games will be identical. As for frame rate, wouldn’t be surprised if PS4 version is slightly better.

        • Clate

I think they are probably going to be about the same but if any platform has an edge I am going to go with Xbox due to it getting more attention from Bethesda

          • Hailey

I guess we’ll see when Digital Foundry lets us know how they stack up. Til then, I’d say PS4 has the edge due to it being the console with better hardware. Unless they don’t optimize the game as well for PS4, that’d be a different story…

          • Clate

Bethesda’s history just make me believe that the Xbox version will be the more optimized version and that will more or less make up for the PS4s hardware edge. But since all 3 of their platforms use the same architecture and similar tools I really do not think there is going to be much of a difference between the PS4 and XBOne. It is 100% not going to be as distant as say Skyrim and Fallout 3 was. Fallout 3 was quite a bit smoother on the 360 than the PS3. I never played the 360 version of Skyrim so I am just taking what others have said for it

          • Hailey

Yeah the PS3 was def sh*t on by Bethesda, lol (Skyrim and F03)
I just hope that tradition will be broken this time, so that Sony players will get an equal experience. Fingers crossed!

          • Rubix99

It’s going to be VERY interesting to see what happens when Bethesda get in the first main wave of sale figures for the game. And see which platform it is that’s bringing in the greater revenue…..and how much by.

If this goes the same way as other big third party games of recent times and sells 2x or even 3x better on PS4……Bethesda’s Xbox preference is going to go the exact same way as Activision’s did with the Call of Duty franchise!

          • GameSpeak

The funniest part about that there is that more than likely it will sell better onps4, considering xbox decided the best plan of action was to release the new tomb raider on the same day 😛 people on ps4 will buy fallout 4 people on xbox are faced with tomb raider or fallout, likely splitting sales.

          • Rubix99

Not really sure how well Tomb Raider will do on Xbox One.
If chart estimates are to be believed…..the last Tomb Raider game has only sold 0.37 million copies on Xbox One since January 2014.

And sold 1.87 million copies on Xbox 360 since March 2013.
Did not really fare much better on the Sony consoles.
I heard it had a big spike in sales on PC when it went for a temporary sale deal on Steam for $5.

      • Tyler Watson

Well after months of having it. The FPS is mostly solid outside the city area.

  • SPETSNAZ!

    Sweet!
