Far Cry 3 is available for the first time on the current generation consoles. It is a part of the Far Cry 5 Season Pass which is also included in the Gold Edition for Far Cry 5. It will be released later as a standalone purchase although there is no release date given for it yet.
Far Cry 3 was a late generation game that was released back in 2012. It came at the very end of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 console life cycle and struggled to run on them as well as the PC version. Not only the frame rate was terrible with constant screen tearing, the game also felt like a huge downgrade with many of the important visual effects toned down or removed completely.
Thankfully, it is now possible to enjoy Far Cry 3 as it was intended by the developers thanks to the Classic Edition, which also acts as a remaster. It features all of the major visual enhancements of the PC version and also greatly improves the frame rate.
The comparison that is above is from just the beginning of the game but it easily highlights how much of a downgrade the original Far Cry 3 was on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The performance of the game in cutscenes never managed to hit 30 FPS but this has all changed now and the experience is relatively smooth. If you were excited to return to the world of Far Cry 3, this is a pretty good time to play it on a console.
