Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster Gets Fantastic Looking PS4 Screenshots, PS3 vs. Vita vs. PS4 Comparison

Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster will be released on the PS4 tomorrow but some stores are already selling the game ahead of the official release date. Now that the game is out, we have a good comparison of how the PS4 version compares to the PS3 and Vita version of the game.

We have already done a comparison between the PS3 version and the PS4 version of the game, but we still haven’t seen the Vita version stacked against the PS4 version. Thanks to NeoGAF user X-Factor, we have got our hands on some great looking 1080p screenshots from the game, in addition to a comparison between the Vita and PS4 version of the game.

Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster will be released on the PS4 on May 12 2015. It was originally released for the PS3 and PS Vita last year and then later ported to the PS4. The PS4 release offers upgraded textures, improved anti-aliasing, and improved shadows in addition to the ability to switch between the original and remastered soundtrack.

  • *sigh* time to buy this game AGAIN

They appear to have achieved their aim of creating such perfect high definition that everything looks plastic and harsh, the screenshot comparisons are like “look at the gross soft lighting and whimsy of this game, we hammered that right out. It’s all polished machinery now.”

Which really, is how Final Fantasy 13 turned out, the beautiful but excessively precise nature of the environments rendering them to me rather sterile. I probably have the wrong kind of eyes, but I don’t think it looks improved. Besides which, even in the now out-of-date HD versions, everyone who wasn’t a main character had the tragedy of a second class face which looked even more ridiculous, so unless they fixed that they genuinely haven’t done enough.
The only good thing to come out of this is the clear indicator that they can shift PS3 HD games to PS4, which means Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD and 2.5 HD will be on their way.

lol great biased title btw imo it looks the same except it’s sharper, waste of money just like the last of us remaster. breath in & breathe out sony fanboys, don’t be mad at me, be mad at the boringstation 4

      ^——-fan boy reeks over here.

      • Fay_Z

i had a ps4 for last of us, what a waste it was.

        • sublimetalmsg

Well we both have different opinions i thought it was good. but i didnt play it until ps4. I will say i play my ps4 more then my Xbox. But i use my Xbox everyday for media so both have there pros and cons. I just wish i could plug my phone into them and play music through them….

Sounds like you’re resentful that you spent $400+ to play one game. Do you want people to feel sorry for you?

          • Fay_Z

no dumbo, it has re sale value, i’m just stating that that remake was a waste.

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

TLoU Remaster was amazing. Much sharper and 60fps.

    • sean connor

Yeah the ps4 is a disaster and Sony’s credit status has been junk for over a year. Time to call it a day.

  • PixelOmen

Whoa, that’s a pretty significant facelift, a lot more that I was expecting anyway, I’d argue more so than the majority of remasters.

  • benbenkr

Why did they saw the need to increase the gamma further? This is Final Fantasy, not Gears of War.

    • WhyWai

because it gives the impression that the image is more crisp…

      • benbenkr

Higher gamma values does not make an image more crisp. Wtf are you talking about?

    • Jafin

They didn’t increase the gamma… it clearly has higher resolution textures, some simple tesselation (or really good parallax mapping), and HDR image via more advanced tonemapping (what you refer to as increased gamma.)

It’s an HD remaster. Is it better? That’s up to the individual. Is it worth it? Again, up to the individual. Is it actually High Definition and using more advanced technologies? Yes.

      • benbenkr

Uh yes they did. Don’t need to give me a life story about what a remaster is, thank you.

        • Jafin

Sorry, I wrote that when I was really tired and didn’t mean to insult your intelligence. However, technically speaking, it’s not a gamma increase. It’s modified Tonemapping you’re seeing. They’re significantly different. Anyways, I’m done.

  • simply not worth it. plus – 2 sucked monkey balls.

  • Concerned

What the heck kind of tv are you getting these screens off of. The “PS4” side looks like the Ps3 remake…

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

No it doesn’t. It’s much clearer and sharper than before. I started the game on my PS3 to compare, The PS4 version is quite a bit better.

glad I’m waiting to get this on PS4. I had bought it and the Limited Edition (sans disc) on PS3 but never got around to it since I was busy with FFVII-FFIX so traded regular edition in but kept Limited Edition for artwork. A shame the regular edition won’t have the artwork included for PS4 though I like the box art. Wish I could pre order and get that desktop calendar but I don’t have PS4 yet. Lulu is hotter than ever with PS4 graphics, but overall I can’t wait to finally play the game. It’s gonna be exciting to finally get my hands on it later this year when I get the system. Once I finish this and Type 0 HD then I’ll play XV, whenever I get to it.
