Fumito Ueda is the main guy behind The Last Guardian. He was the one who led a small development team at Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and worked on creating ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian. Unfortunately, the team was met with some technical challenges on bringing The Last Guardian to PS3 and finally after years of wait, we have an official confirmation of the game heading to the PS4.
Ueda, who was also seen at Sony’s E3 2015 conference, took this reveal as a moment to announce his involvement with the project, and he also revealed his new studio.
“The Last Guardian has finally been unveiled! I’ve updated my personal site to mark the occasion,” said Fumito Ueda on Twitter. “Last summer, I started a small studio with some of my old collaborators to challenge myself and try something new.”
The studio he is talking about is genDesign and they started their work in Mid 2014 judging from their website. That’s not all, Ueda confirmed his full role with the development of The Last Guardian and promised more project beyond.
“Since last summer, I’ve been working from a smaller studio I formed with the original staff who helped make Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Together we hope to challenge our personal creative limits & the possibilities of what games can be, both with The Last Guardian and beyond,” concluded Ueda.
The Last Guardian is now set for a release in 2016 exclusively on the PS4.
