Halo 5 will get an update for the Xbox One X offering a higher rendering resolution in addition to supporting the enhancements offered by the Xbox One X.
Recently in a post on reddit, Halo Community Manager, Brian Jarrard teased some of the Xbox One X enhancements that can be expected from the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians update.
Brian clarifies that the planned update for Halo 5: Guardians is likely not going to offer the same extend of upgrades as Rise of the Tomb Raider or Gears of War 4. He then talked about the improvements that he personally noticed when playing the game on Xbox One X. He mentioned faster load times for the story mode and improved level-of-detail (LOD) for the game. While Halo 5: Guardians has use LOD to save performance, Xbox One X hardware allows the developers to utilize max detail at a higher distance.
Since the game rendered at a dynamic resolution on the Xbox One targeting 1080p as the upper end, it should be interesting to see how it transitions to the Xbox One X. The frame rate was mostly steady 60 fps on the original Xbox but Brian claims that it offers more ‘responsiveness’ for the controls on the Xbox One X.
Halo 5: Guardians was originally not going to get an update for the Xbox One X but the plans later changed after E3 2017. In addition to Halo 5, 343 Industries is also patching support for the Halo: Master Chief Collection for the Xbox One X. Both of these updates are planned for early 2018.
