Nintendo Switch Has Outpaced Wii, Becomes Fastest Selling Nintendo Hardware In US

Nintendo Switch is off to a strong start with a new sales milestone after this holiday. In an official press release sent by Nintendo, they have now confirmed that the sales of Nintendo Switch currently stand at 4.8 million units in USA after 10 months on market, which is ahead of the 4 million units sold by the Nintendo Wii during similar time frame. This makes Switch the fastest selling Nintendo hardware in history.

The press release also teased strong support from third party games including the likes of Activision and Take Two. While the former hasn’t really released any major game for the Nintendo Switch in 2017, the latter released L.A Noire and NBA 2K18. It is also rumored that Rockstar Games are working on a potential port for GTA V on the Nintendo Switch, but it remains to be seen if this rumor is correct.

“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”

Nintendo Switch had a stellar year in 2017 with games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. There were also many games released by the third party developers including FIFA, NBA 2K18, WWE 2K18 and DOOM among others.
