Nintendo Switch Gets System Update 4.0.0; Here’s What It Does

Nintendo has released a brand new system software update for the Nintendo Switch today. Among the major features, video recording and the ability to transfer your saves to a different system are the highlights of this update.

It was not possible to transfer your saves to a different system until after this recent update. This meant people who had their Nintendo Switch damaged had to lose all their progress in games since the saves were tied to the system. This has been changed in the new update and now you can transfer your saves to a different system before sending it for repairs or selling it.

The other major change is the addition of video recording that lets you record a gameplay clip for supported games for up to 30 seconds. The supported games list is very small so far and includes most the first party games by Nintendo, but expect it to grow as more developers can utilize it.

The full patch notes for the update can be seen below.

  • Video capture for select games
  • New profile icons featuring characters from the Super Mario Odyssey™ game and The Legend of Zelda™: Breath of the Wild game
  • Transfer user profiles and save data to another system
  • Pre-purchase option is available for certain games on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch

In addition to this firmware update, Nintendo has also released an update for the Switch Joy Cons although there are no details available for the changes that it implements for the controllers.
