Although No Man’s Sky has had a number of problems with it’s PC launch, the game has very quickly become the best selling game on Steam this year. Not only is the game the biggest launch this year, it has also become one of the best selling games in Steam’s history.
According to Steam’s stats, No Man’s Sky had 212,620 users on launch. While this number is trumped by Dota 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive’s massive player base, PC Gamer has estimated that it is still around 46% greater than every other release this year. Stats also showed that Steam servers were dishing out an average of 4.7 terabits per second as people downloaded the game.
No Man’s Sky is a procedurally generated space adventure game by developer Hello Games, with over 18 quintillion planets. In it, players have the freedom to do whatever they want, whether it be exploring, fighting, trading or just plain surviving. The ultimate goal however is to reach the center of the universe.
No Man’s Sky was released on 9th August for the PlayStation 4 and on 12th August for the PC. The PC version of the game has as number of game breaking bugs that the developer is currently hard at work fixing. Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games, also released a blog post a few days earlier, discussing what players can do in the game as well as the game’s future.
