Quakecon 2016 has finally kicked off, and we have now gotten our very first look at the new Prey’s gameplay. Bethesda Softworks also released a brand new trailer for the game.
Prey takes place in the year 2032, on the Talos I research space station that is owned by the company TransStar. Players take on the role of Protagonist Morgan Yu, who is part of a private research project that is working on the advancement of humanity, when the space station is overrun by aliens.
The aliens are represented as distorted black masses, and come in a variety of shapes and forms. The most common types are the 4 legged Mimics, on top of which, the trailer also gives glimpses of a more humanoid alien and a massive bruiser type class. These enemies can take on the form of everyday items such as coffee cups or even trash, so paying attention to your surroundings is incredibly important.
Gameplay is a mix of combat, stealth and using gadgets in order to solve problems or sneak past enemies. In his/her arsenal, Morgan possesses a number of unique gadgets such as the Gloo gun and the Neuromod, as well as weapons such as a handgun and a shotgun. Although weapons will be present in the game, they will be extremely scarce.
The gameplay is open-ended, with the whole space station already accessible from the get-to, and alternate pathways can be discovered by the player. As evident by the trailer, players will also be allowed to explore outside the station to some degree. Freedom of choice will also be present in the game and players can choose to play the way they want to.
Prey was first announced back at E3 2016 and is a reboot of the Prey franchise. The game is set for a 2017 launch for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and the PC.
