Blizzard Entertainment has announced that their popular competitive first person shooter Overwatch has now sold more than 7 million copies worldwide, making it the fastest selling game for them ahead of Diablo 3 for the PC.
Overwatch was released on May 24th for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The game launched to rave reviews and currently holds a metacritic average of 92, which makes it one of the best first person shooter from current generation.
Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed today via a press release that Overwatch has now sold more than 7 million copies worldwide. The game launched across PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 24th and while the console version were slightly more expensive at $60 compared to the $40 price tag for PC, they seem to have enjoyed the same success as on PC judging from the seven million copies sold of the game.
Blizzard calls this “most successful global game launches of all time” and reveals that players have now logged in more than 119 million hours of gameplay for Overwatch.
“Over the months and weeks leading up to release we saw a lot of love and support for Overwatch—from Blizzard gamers, FPS fans, and people who’d never picked up a game like this before—and we’re very grateful for everyone’s incredible passion and enthusiasm,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We poured a lot of effort into creating a game—and a new universe—that anyone could enjoy. We’re ecstatic to have had such a successful launch, and we’re looking forward to all of the fun, competition, and new content still to come.”
Overwatch is available now for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
