PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 exclusives Comparison: Resolution and Frame Rate

This generation has ended. There is suddenly a strong interest in the resolution and fps of games for PS4 and Xbox One. What about the PS3/360 generation? We take a look back at the resolution and fps of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 exclusives.

  • Blue Dragon = 1280×720 (2xAA) – 30 fps

  • Crackdown 2 = 1280×720 (2xAA) – 30 fps
  • Dead Rising = 1280×720 ( up to 4xAA depending on frame rate) – 30 fps
  • Dead or Alive 4 = 1280×720 (2xAA) – 60 fps
  • Forza Horizon = 1280×720 (4xAA + FXAA) – 30 fps
  • Forza Motorsport 2 = 1280×720 (2xAA in-game, 4xAA replay & vehicle select) – 60 fps
  • Forza Motorsport 3 = 1280×720 (2xAA in-game, 4xAA replay & vehicle select) – 60 fps
  • Forza Motorsport 4 = 1280×720 (4xAA in time trial, 2xAA otherwise, 4x in car viewing etc.) – 60 fps

  • Gran Turismo 5 = 1280×720 (4xAA), 1280×1080 (QAA, TAA selectable), 1280×720 (QAA) in 3D mode – 60 fps
  • Heavenly Sword = 1280×720 (4xAA) – 30 fps

  • Ratchet & Clank: A Crank in Time = 960×704 (2xAA, AA samples used to reconstruct 720p) – 60 fps
  • Resistance: Fall of Man = 1280×720 (QAA) – 30 fps
  • Resistance 2 = 1280×720 (QAA) – 30 fps
  • Resistance 3 = 960×704 (QAA) – 30 fps
  • Shadow of the Colossus = 1280×720, 960×1080 (MLAA), 720p for 3D – 30 fps
  • The Last of Us = 1280×720 (post-AA) – 30 fps
  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune = 1280×720 (2xAA) – 30 fps
  • Uncharted 2 = 1280×720 (2xAA) – 30 fps
  • Uncharted 3 = 1280×720 (edge detect) in 2D, 896×504 in 3D – 30 fps

Judging by the above, not every exclusive title ended up with 720p resolution that was the standard back then so we are gonna take a wild guess here and say that we should expect the same from the upcoming generation. As usual, most of Sony exclusives in current generation strictly adhered to native 720p standard just like Sony is currently winning the race in term of 1080p exclusives. There weren’t many titles that stuck with a 60 fps though.
