August is here, which means the arrival of new game titles for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Like last month, Sony is offering a total of six games across the PS4, PS3 and the Vita. Two of these games will be available for download on the day they release on the PlayStation Store; Road Not Taken for PS4 and Metrico on the PS Vita. Along with Road Not Taken, Fez will also be available for download on the PS4. The PS3 will receive Crysis 3 and Proteus while Dragon’s Crown will be available for the Vita.
First up is Road Not Taken, navigate yourself through a vast forest as fast as you can before your stamina runs out and save lost children along the way. This is a completely new game by developer SpryFox and will release on the 5th of August.
Next in line is Fez, this game allows you to move around in 2D levels which are housed in a 3D world, complete challenges by rotating your display with the push of a button; this award winning game is created by indie developer Polytron Corporation and was originally released on 13th April 2012.
Crysis 3 is a stunningly beautiful game by developer Crytek which was released back in February 2013, it is an award winning shooter which is a sequel to the famous Crysis 2. The game runs on Cryengine 3 and scored a 77 metascore. Features to note in the game are the ‘Predator Bow’ and a new multiplayer mode called ‘Hunter’ where you and a friend are put up against a team of Cell agents with a goal of turning them into fellow Hunters.
Proteus was released in January 2013 by developer Curve Studios, it is an open world game where players explore meticulously generated islands with a dynamic soundtrack drawn in a pixel art style. The game doesn’t require you to fulfill a specific goal but rather it encourages exploring and discovering the island. The game design was done by ED Key, the game won the award for Best Audio in the 2011 Indiecade Awards and was a finalist for the 2012 Independent Games Festival’s Nuovo Award.
Moving on to the PS Vita, Metrico is an ‘atmospheric puzzle action game with a mindset of its own’ which was well received prior to its release. Don’t get fooled by the soothing and clean presentation as proceeding forward through the game isn’t as easy as it seems. The game releases on August 5th by Digital Dreams Games.
Dragon’s Crown is a 2D side scrolling RPG where you can choose from up to six heroes with different abilities, you can invite up to three friends to play along in the Dungeons. Cross play enables PS3 users to join in the fun as well. Dragon’s Crown was released on July 25, 2013, by Vanillaware Ltd.
Unfortunately, there were no ground breaking games announced this month for the PS4 but we look forward to what Sony has in store for its ‘Next Gen Console’ next month.
