PlayStation VITA manages to overcome monstrous Pokemon Sales, solid sales this week in Japan

Pokemon X and Y launched this week in Japan along with new PlayStation VITA model. We were all expecting PlayStation VITA to get crushed by the massive Pokemon X and Y + 3DS bundles combo but it seems like the VITA held pretty well against its own.

According to Media Create, PlayStation VITA moved about 60,166 unit, which is up from a measly 3,538 units last week. This is a huge bump all thanks to the new VITA model and new colors for it.

Looking forward, we hope that the new PlayStation VITA model holds these sales numbers and manages to sell decently through out the year. PlayStation VITA TV will be also released this year and it will be interesting to see the sales number for VITA TV.

The top selling game this week was of course Pokemon X and Y that moved about 1,866,570 units. The only new VITA title that managed to crack the Top 5 was Danganronpa 1 & 2 reload, which sold about 76,162 units. We suspect that Danganronpa + VITA Slim combo might be the reason VITA got such a big boost this week.

What do you think of this news? Do you think VITA can hold a good average until the end of the year? Let us know in the comments below.

It all depends on the games. There’s nothing new in the 3DS world, no updates to the console this holiday season (in the US). The release of a new Pokemon game will not determine the ultimate success or failure of the Sony PS Vita. However, the one obstacle that has plagued the Vita since launch remains – where are the games? Where is the Assassin’s Creed catalog and a new release. Where is the new God of War? Where are all the PS3 quality titles that we bought the Vita to play? I want to take a PS3 quality gaming experience with me when I travel, but the game selection is so meager.

I am looking forward to Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate, but that’s just one title. Where are the rest?
