Prey has finally received its Xbox One X enhanced update along with the launch of the Moon DLC. The most important aspect of this update is that it finally bumps the image quality for Prey that used to render at 900p on the Xbox One. The new update has now enabled Prey to render at native 1440p on the Xbox One X and adds several improved visual effects.
YouTube Channel VGTech has analyzed the frame rate and performance of Prey on the Xbox One X and compared it to the original Xbox One. According to VGTech, Prey rendered at 900p on the Xbox One while the new update adds support for Xbox One X, making it now render at a higher resolution of 1440p.
Xbox One renders at a native resolution of 1600×900 and the Xbox One X renders at a native resolution of 2560×1440. The Xbox One X uses Screen Space Reflections which are not used on the base system. The Xbox One X also has improved texture filtering and increased draw distance for lights.
If we compare this to the PlayStation 4 Pro, it does appear to be a rather big difference since Prey was running at the same resolution on the base PS4 and PS4 Pro. Both version rendered at 1080p but PS4 Pro version offered some improved visual effects.
Prey is available now on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It has just received its first DLC called Prey Mooncrash that is available as to purchase separately from the main game or comes with the digital deluxe edition.
