Prey’s Update 1.04 Finally Adds PS4 Pro Support, Improves Visuals And Performance

Bethesda Softworks has finally decided to implement PS4 Pro support for their recently released first person shooter, Prey. The game was criticized at launch for lack of PS4 Pro support even though the official boxart stated that the game shipped with PS4 Pro enhancements.

Prey is a Cry Engine game so it is supposed to be a visuals showcase yet it never managed to utilize the extra power offered by the PS4 Pro hardware. The latest patch for Prey updates the game to version 1.04 and implements the following changes for the PS4 Pro.

PS4 Pro Support added for:
– Enable Screen-Space Reflections
– Higher quality shadows
– Improved texture appearance
– More texture memory (stable streaming)
– Anisotropy 16x (from 4x)
– Improved visual fidelity
– Less LOD usage
– Dynamic lights show up further
– Particles are allowed to draw more pixels per effect

It should be interesting to see how much of an improvement the game actually shows since the patch notes sound nice on paper. We will make sure to perform a comparison between the game before and after applying the update on the PS4 Pro, so please look forward to it.

Prey is now available for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. It was developed by Arkane Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. You can read our review of the game from here.
