PS3 Firmware Update 4.7 Released [Update]

Sony has released a new PS3 firmware update 4.7. This seems to be a minor but mandatory firmware update that is required to be able to play online on the PlayStation 3.

You can download this firmware update from your PlayStation 3. While there is no changelog available for it yet, we will update this article once there is one. Judging from past updates, this might be another minor update for “system stability”, which is usually code for fixing exploits to stop the homebrew scene on the PlayStation 3.

Update: You can now read the changelog below.

Closed Captions are now supported for  the Playback of Blu-Ray Disc titles and DVDs. To display closed captions, select [Settings] > [Video Settings] > [Closed Captions].

The style used for for closed captions, such as the font, size and color, can now be adjusted. Select [Settings] > [Video Settings] > [Closed Captions Settings].

This update has more to do with the closed caption for bluray playback than a simple stability update, like past updates.

If you haven’t received this new firmware update, you should wait a while as it has just went live, and should start rolling out worldwide slowly.

Let us know if you have updated to this latest firmware and noticed any change, in the comments below.
