PS4 Firmware Update 4.70 Implements Some Hidden Changes

Sony has released a brand new firmware update today for the PS4. This firmware update arrived without any official announcement so it was a stealth update for the PS4. This system software will update the PS4 to version 4.70 and while the changelog for the firmware update only mentions minor stability fixes, some users have discovered that there are now some minor changes that aren’t mentioned in the changelog.

The official changelog for the PS4 system software update 4.70 simply mentions the following.

  • This system software update improves the quality of the system performance.

Some eagle eyed reddit users have managed to discover some hidden changes that are implemented in this latest PS4 firmware update. They mainly deal with the design of the icons for the PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Store and other services that are prominently featured on the PS4 dashboard. You can view a comparison between the new and old icons below.

The download size of this new firmware update is around 320 MB. It should be available for download on the PS4 and since the update is mandatory, you need to install the firmware in order to play multiplayer games online or connect to PSN.
