Rise of the Tomb Raider Gets Small Graphics Upgrade On PC, Comparison Inside

Rise of the Tomb Raider PC

Rise of the Tomb Raider has received a brand new update on PC which includes SLI support and performance optimization among other fixes. You can read the full set of changes from here.

This new update adds an improved HBAO+ solution in addition to a new graphical preset called “Specular Reflections Quality” which offers better anti-aliasing coverage in trade for performance. You can see this new effect in action in the comparison GIF below, courtesy of reddit user Clukos.

Notice the edge of the stairs showing improved coverage with the very high quality on PC. This effect was not easily eliminated on PC when using the standard AA settings and required downsampling from a higher resolution.

reddit user dbaaz has shared some 4K screenshots with this effect on medium, high and very high respectively.

Rise of the Tomb Raider already looks gorgeous on PC so this new update makes it even better. Those who have the capability dial up the graphical settings even further can enjoy utilizing these new features at the cost of performance.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was released on the PC on January 28th. It was ported by Nixxes, who have also worked on the Xbox 360 version of the game. It was a timed exclusive for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 and will be released for the PS4 in Fall 2016.
