Sakaguchi shows cancelled project Cry On, makes fans wonder

Final Fantasy creator and Mistwalker Studios head Hironobu Sakaguchi uploaded the supposed trailer for 2008’s cancelled title Cry On somewhat out of the blue on his personal YouTube channel. Cry On was announced back in 2005 for the Xbox 360, the title was being developed jointly by Sakaguchi’s Mistwalker and the now defunct Cavia studio. Cavia are of course known for Nier and the Drakengard series.

This is the first we’ve seen of Cry On since its announcement other than the occasional concept art released by the studio. In the trailer embedded below we see a girl trying to escape from a cavern of shadows.

According to the credits Sakaguchi was said to work on the game’s scenario and production while the legendary composer Nobou Uematsu worked on the soundtrack. Since his departure Sakaguchi and Mistwalker have went on to develop a number of titles including Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, The Last Story and recently Terra Battle for mobile devices.

Personally the game looked pretty interesting albeit a bit too similar to Team Ico’s Shadow of the Colossus and the limbo struck The Last Guardian. Sakaguchi hasn’t commented on why he uploaded the trailer so suddenly, maybe he’s suggesting one of the bigger publishers to pick it up like Nintendo did with Bayonetta 2? Xbox’s Phil Spencer has suggested that he’d be interested in bring back some Xbox franchises to the Xbox One, Cry On could be the perfect game for that.
