Security Breach Results In Users Locking Out Of Their Epic Games Accounts

Epic Games is one of the most popular developers these days thanks to the growth in popularity of their Unreal Engine, and Fortnite being extremely popular battle royale game that has taken its competitor, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Recently, users who had an Epic Games account were surprised to see an email informing them that they were locked out of their accounts. I received the same email for my account even though I haven’t really logged in it for a while now. It turns out that that there has been a security breach on stat tracking websites which might have made your Epic Games account public, in which case there are potential bots that are trying to break through the account security.

If you are one of the affected user that has received this email from Epic Games, it is best to enable 2-factor authentication for your account, especially if you have invested a lot of your valuable time and money in it. To eable the 2-factor authentication, simply head to the official Epic Games website and login your account there. Once you are done, go into settings menu and you should find the 2-factor authentication option under security.

While Fortnite is free to play, users can also purchase microtransactions and there is also an early access version of Fortnite called Save The World mode, which requires you to purchase a copy tied to your Epic Games account.

Let us know if you have received any email or faced any attempts at hacking your account in the comments below.
