Shadow of the Colossus Remake Comparison Screens Highlight Artistic Difference

Shadow of the Colossus is getting a full fledged remake from Bluepoint Games. This is the same developer who has previously worked on the Shadow of the Colossus remaster for the PS3. While the game originally launched on the PS2, it was one of the most technically ambitious game of its time and due to the lack of hardware power, it didn’t manage to run that well on the original PS2. The remaster for Shadow of the Colossus managed to fix the frame rate issues on PS3 while offering the same visuals with better clarity at HD resolution.

This is the theoretically the third release of Shadow of the Colossus after the PS2 original followed by the PS3 remaster. Unfortunately while it is a full blown remake that offers many visual improvements over the original, it also suffers from a different look compared to the dark and gritty look of the remaster.

NeoGAF users Jawbreaker and Yiazmat have shared comparison screenshots taken from the trailer of the Remake and the Remaster and the difference in both version is staggering, but even the original visual style has been changed and can look worse at times.

Of course, since the game is still in development, perhaps the developers can still tweak the visuals so it matches the dark and gritty atmosphere of the original, instead of retaining its current bright and colorful visual style.

Shadow of the Colossus remake is set to launch in 2018 for the PS4. It is being developed by Bluepoint Games and will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
