Sniper Elite 3 Day 1 Patch Is Huge On Xbox One, Smaller On Other Platforms

Sniper Elite 3 is the upcoming first person shooter from Rebellion Games. It is going to be released soon for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The game is already in the hands of some users, and according to early reports, the game has a huge day 1 patch on the Xbox One.

According to early reports, the day 1 patch on Xbox One weighs in at about 10 GB, which sounds insane for a game’s day 1 patch. This is nothing surprising though as Xbox One usually has bigger size of patches for its games.

Rebellion Games have assured that this day 1 patch will be of smaller size on other platforms. As shared by Eurogamer, Rebellion Games gave an explanation on why this patch is so big in size.

“The main part of the update is to sync data between the game’s retail discs and the Xbox Live digital download edition of the game. In the several weeks between sending the code off to manufacture and release, rather than sit around or take a break, we’ve continued to work on the game, making improvements and optimisations.

“We’ve also begun work on multiplayer DLC and a small part of this update is to introduce a compatibility pack. This is standard for any game that adds DLC – it’s just to make sure everyone can have the same multiplayer experience whether they own DLC or not.”

Rebellion Games acknowledged the huge download for day 1 patch but assure that it was necessary due to the optimization that they did after sending the game code for publishing on discs.

“While we understand gamers will be frustrated at the wait, the good news is that the update will actually reduce the size of the game’s total install footprint on their hard drive, and reduce the size of future patches significantly.

“It’s part of this ongoing optimisation process that’s enabled Sniper Elite 3 to perform well at a native 1080p on both Xbox One and PS4. We appreciate everyone’s patience and we firmly believe Sniper Elite 3 will be worth the wait!”

You know, not everyone in the world has affordable fast internet and these game-makers should really get their games at least 99% perfected before they release a title. When we buy a game it is with the expectation we can play it immediately and should be a matter of choice that downloaded patches are needed to sort out small technical issues without which the game would be still functional for everyone. As it stands, when almost the entire game has to be downloaded as a patch, it is just a reflection of the greed and incompetence of the game-makers. Yes, they have made their money but is their conscience clear that they created a product of so a poor quality that it needs such a large patch. No, contrary to what u like to believe, we do not enjoy that you create a patch that will reduce the game footprint overall and that it will allow future patches of smaller size. This is just an excuse for poor quality programming in the first place. Well, I suppose the gamers who bought the game don’t have a choice. They need to download the patch or what I would like to call almost the whole game again. Maybe these initial versions should be sold at a quarter the price to make it worthwhile to buy and wait several hours for the patch to download?
