Star Wars: Battlefront made its long awaited gameplay debut during EA’s press conference at E3 2015. The footage showcased some fantastic visuals, despite the busy and chaotic nature of the 40-player multiplayer game. DICE’s graphics engine now boasts modern features such as Physically Based Rendering (PBR) and Photogrammetry, and it clearly shows with the dynamic and realistic lighting.
The presentation walked the audience through a “Walker Assault” multiplayer match on the planet Hoth, which Star Wars fans should be all too familiar with. The footage shown at EA’s conference was captured on a Playstation 4.
The E3 debut gameplay demo can be seen in the video below.
Star Wars: Battlefront’s multiplayer is scalable, just like DICE’s other multiplayer-focused franchise Battlefield, and supports large-scale 40-player battles down to smaller modes for 8 players via a variety of multiplayer modes.
Die-hard Star Wars fans will be very excited to see both Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader make a special appearance towards the end of the E3 gameplay demonstration. Both characters can be seen wielding a light saber, and battling it out as the presentation comes to an end.
The aforementioned “Walker Assault” multiplayer mode puts players in a 40-player battle as a Rebel to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-AT’s by calling in Y-Wing bombers. In order to protect your Walkers, you must side with the Empire, while utilizing their mighty weaponry to crush the Rebel objective.
