Thief Sells More On The PS4 Than On Xbox One, Debuts at Number 1 In UK This Week

Thief is another multiplatform title that has huge success on the PS4 compared to the Xbox One. In its debut week in UK, it sold almost twice the number of copies on the PS4 compared to the Xbox One.

According to sales tracker GFK Chart-Track, Thief debuted at Number 1 in the UK. It was the second best launch week for any title this year in the UK, behind FIFA 14. What’s more interesting though is the sales breakdown for Thief between all the platforms. According to this breakdown, Thief had made 46% of its sales on the PS4, 29% of it on Xbox One, 14% on Xbox 360 and just 8% on the PS3.

The popularity of PS4 for multiplatform titles can be easily seen with this software sales breakdown between platforms. The old generation consoles are lagging far behind compared to the current gen ones, which is understandable since they have been on market for a long time now. Earlier this month, it was revealed that multiplatform titles by Electronic Arts actually sold better on the PS4 compared to the Xbox One. Now it seems like the same holds true in other markets.

What do you think about the sales figure for Thief on the PS4? Let us know in the comments below.

So your numbers show that 60% of the sales went to Xbox platforms and 37% went to went to Playstation platforms. Interesting. Almost double to xbox. Thanks for the data

    • Carl

Where did you learn maths? 46% ps4 and 8% ps3 equals a total of 54% to ps brand. 29% xbone and 14% 360 equals 43%. I more interested in the missing 3%.

  • Steph

I’d hope so since more people have ps4s lol.

I bought it on X1; I like the game. There are annoying pieces to it (navigation, loading screens, and absolutely horrid dialog), but the game is still fun to me. I think anyone that enjoys stealth play, will still enjoy the game.

In any case, I imagine that game “availability” played a role in the sales (for each system). The reality is that there’s a lot more games on the X1 “at this time”… and thus, with more options, sales will be divided among more games. I bet if you compared total game sales (across both systems), X1 would be in the lead.

    • datdude

Another bozo claiming more games on xbone, when in reality it is the exact opposite. See for yourself.

ahahaha… I’ve been “slaughtered”?? How so, douche bag? Your link doesn’t even work. I’ve listed two links (one for each system) below, for reference… just add the “.” before the “com”, and they will work.. I’ve got nothing to hide, or make up, to “win” an argument… and I have no care as to who “wins” the console “war”.. What a douche tool…

I own an X1; it has nothing to do with being a fanboy. I will own a PS4 this month, or next (might wait until Titanfall losses it’s luster). I think both systems are pretty amazing, so you can run home and shove fruit loops up your @ss, with all that noise.

I’m just real about sh*t. PS4 has far less AAA exclusives at “the moment”. Outside of sports/racing games, PS4 basically has KZ4 (that’s it). And everyone (including two of my buds that own both systems, and love KZ2) thinks KZ4 is crap. It’s preference, but it’s shared among a ton of people… it’s why (as a fact) it’s sold far less than any other AAA cross title in it’s genre (e.g. BF4 & COD), and averaged 7 out of 10, on game reviews. Second Son looks great though; can’t wait to play it. My only complaint will be that there’s no multiplayer; that doesn’t mean it will be a bad game.

        You look dumb as hell..

You must be right. That must be why the xbone is outselling the ps4 2:1 and multiplatform games shared by both consoles are selling better on the xbone. Oh, wait……….it’s exactly the opposite. Never mind. You’re wrong.

          • onezerofive

PS4 is selling better; no denying that. XBOX hasn’t released numbers since December, so we really don’t know the current ratio though… in either case, I wouldn’t care… You must have missed the fact that I think both systems are awesome, and will own the PS4 this/next month.

But it’s good to see that you’re ignoring the conversation entirely… “datdude’ is apparently having denial issues on the facts… poor guy.

          • datdude

I usually don’t reply to confusion, as your confusion is not my concern. But if you want a reply, here you go. The ps4′s launch lineup is rated more highly than the xbones. The highest rated exclusive for either system is on ps4. There are more games available to play on ps4, many of them free. If you want to consider Ryse, Dead Rising, and Forza as great games and use only those as your barometer, that is a you problem. Ryse looks good, but is a terrible game. Dead Rising looks bad, but is a decent game. Forza is replete with microtransactions, with less tracks and cars than Forza 4, and no day/night cycle or weather effects. Yippee. People aren’t lining up for those games, and the sales numbers show that. In addition, ps4 games routinely perform at 1080p 60fps. Routinely. But not the xbone. Multiplatform games perform, and also look better on the ps4. Digital Foundry tests, and their results are conclusive. The games that are common to both systems are better on the ps4. Sony’s first party developers have been kicking sand in the teeth of Microsoft’s first party devs for years. People who buy a system for launch titles, as is what seems to be your argument for the xbone, are extremely short sighted. Most people buy a console based on a strong history of releasing quality titles for that system. Sony has that history. Hence the sales lead. Most people, including myself, couldn’t give a rip about Ryse or Dead Rising, although if you do, that’s your preference and I wouldn’t knock it. But when you base an argument on a narrow set of criteria that you prefer completely discounting the fact it’s not what the market prefers, you cut your own casket. You based your decision to purchase a bone on 3 AAA games, according to your argument. Fair enough. Many more people bought a ps4 because it is more powerful, offers the better performing games, and has a greater variety of titles on offer for gamers to buy, or pick up for free. The majority has spoken.

          • onezerofive

I’ll see your wall of text, and raise it… with stuff that’s not nonsense.

“The ps4′s launch lineup is rated more highly than the xbones.” —- Not that I care about anyone else’s preference, but by who, exactly?? Even websites that are known for BIG PS support, still give to the FACT that X1 had a stronger line-up, with more AAA games. Quality comes into play, but there are definitely more AAA games for X1 at the moment.

“The highest rated exclusive for either system is on ps4.” —- Metacritic begs to differ… Neither system has hit high console AAA exclusive ratings yet. KZ4 is the only current AAA title for PS4 (outside of sports/racing titles). It has a 73 score. But Ryse & DR3 had low averages as well.

“Ryse looks good, but is a terrible game.” —- Preference, so it doesn’t really matter what either of us say. I haven’t played it, so no opinion yet. My bud has (owns both systems), and says the story & graphics are amazing. He said the game play was good as well; that the hack & slash wasn’t any different than a ton of playstation exclusives. However, he did say the story was short. That’s honest feed back from a guy, more so a PS fanboy… so take it or leave it.

“Dead Rising looks bad, but is a decent game.” —- I own this, and the game is fun as hell. It’s an open world game with literally hundreds of zombies in all directions.. And it doesn’t “look bad”. It has better graphics than any “open world” game I’ve ever played (of the same genre). The cut-scenes are hit and miss… some are lacking, and some are amazing (really more to the actual character models). while I wouldn’t say the graphics are amazing, I also wouldn’t say it “looks bad”. But it’s “good” for it’s genre (compared to previous open world games).

“ps4 games routinely perform at 1080p 60fps” —- yes, there are some that do… and yes, more are “reported” to for PS4, then X1… but not all do, and X1 has shown it’s capable as well. Not to mention, that’s presuming it’s not all stretched truths, either. Reports are out this weekend that confirm Sony lied about the 1080p/60fps for Killzone (it’s not 1080p; it’s closer to 720p/50fps). Funny, how not one PS fanboy noticed though (so that shows how important resolution truly is, by the way). And Sony has also had more frame rate issues than X1; albeit it was on versions of games where they were going for 60fps, while X1 was at 30fps… but I’d rather have a smooth 30fps, than a botchy 60fps, that keeps dropping constantly.

“People who buy a system for launch titles, as is what seems to be your argument for the xbone, are extremely short sighted.” —– agreed, but I’m a gamer, and like to play games… I knew I was buying both anyway, so I picked up the system with the most games (first). Not to mention, I’m more online multiplayer oriented, and XBOX will always lead online game-play. Sony is the lead for in-depth story campaigns; they do a great job at this, and I fully support them in that. But MS will always have superiority in numbers (as to network space); they own Windows Azure and are offering dedicated servers for all exclusives, by way of subsidizing costs. I’ll get the best of both worlds, but I find more than enough support to back my X1 purchase first.

It’s all preference at the end of the day, you’re welcome to yours, but you just look stupid bashing the X1. If you owned it, you would know it’s a great system as well.

As I said, your confusion is not my concern. Sales speak for themselves, as do the free games and the higher rated launch lineup. All your protestations to the contrary ring hollow. Good luck with that.

          • onezerofive

facts only ring “hollow” to fanboys… where “truth” and “fiction” are one, and the same.

I can post supporting links to everything I post… I don’t have a “dog” in the fight, since I’m pro both systems. Logic prevails, as only one of us has motive to spew nonsense.

  • Fixer

Either way I feel sorry for the people that wasted their money on it. It seems more PS4 owners don’t know a bad game when they see one.

    • onezerofive

I like it… it’s definitely far from perfect, and it seems like they barely did anything to spruce it up for the next gen consoles, but it’s still fun, for what it is. I don’t regret buying it… I think anyone who enjoys stealth games, will like it.

      Pro’s: Stealth, custom challenges
Con’s: frequent loading screens, horrid dialog, navigation

  • NooB FoR HirE

Wow 46% on the ps4 alone! I’d like to know the ps4 and xbox 1 base in the uk

  • HalfBlackCanuck

Well, if the sales gap is as large as they say then the exact same percentage of each install base purchasing the games gets Sony better numbers anyway. The game hasn’t reviewed terribly well either so one could poke the bear and ask if PS4 owners just want something to play…
But seriously, the lack of content/amazing upcoming content can be argued either way. This is a big month for both companies with Titanfall and Infamous so neither console owners have reason to pick up anything they don’t really want…

    • datdude

“The game hasn’t reviewed terribly well either so one could poke the bear and ask if PS4 owners just want something to play”…uhhhhh…Sony gamers get free psplus games routinely, in addition to new game releases…what exactly has Microsoft given their customers lately by comparison? Not much. So according to your faulty logic, Thief should be selling more copy on the xbone because there are fewer games available on that system for gamers to play.

      • HalfBlackCanuck

My logic is sound, there are more PS4 owners so if 20% of all owners of both consoles bouth the game, PS4 has the advantage. The last bit was a jab at fanboy rhetoric, that’s why I led in with the “poking the bear” bit. Also, you would have to ignore the entire last paragraph where I call it a wash based on individual player preference.
But to address your comment, PS+ titles ARE new game releases (have been so far) and it is very cool that Sony is keeping up with the program on a console that doesn’t yet need it (PS3 needed a shot in the arm after the security break/month long outtage and Vita just needs it in general if you ask around). Sony is definitely on an upswing (at least the gaming division) and they worked hard for it. Time to watch MS sweat a little and try and catch up.

        • Steph

          Well said

      • onezerofive

hahahaha… “datdude” is apparently a massive PS fanboy. Both systems rock, but PS4 is lacking a strong AAA exclusive catalog “at the moment”. Eventually it will have a massive catalog, but that is going to be around 2015 & after…. deal with it.

AAA 2014 exclusives (not county sports/racing games):
X1: DR3, Ryse, Titanfall, Halo, Fable
        PS4: KZ4, Second Son, Order

And PS+ isn’t offering PS4 owners any big titles until at least, next year (same as X1).

        • datdude

There are eight, count em’, eight ps4 games on
vgchartz best selling games of february 2014 before you come to the
first xbone title. Nuff said chumps. Enjoy your five stages of grief. You’re still stuck in denial, but don’t worry. You’ll move along to anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. Xbone has more games indeed. Maybe in the bizarro world, certainly not in this one. “Funny, I haven’t heard any confirmation on Halo for 2014″ —- it’s not my problem, if you don’t follow the news… It was anounced for 2014 (end of year). There are possibilities that it can be delayed (just as any other game), but that doesn’t change the fact that it was announced for 2014. Place a “.”, where it says (DOT), and the link will work. • Cliff Giddens

Wow! People that have the ps4 mist have penis envy. All I ever see are post from playstation fans saying well the ps4 sold twice as much (lie). Read the company’s earnings report. Both of them. I can’t read a post about how the ps4 is or what games might be nice to play because it’s always in comparison to the xbox one. Seriously. .if the ps4 is that good you wouldn’t need to constantly compare it to the xbox. Smh. Plus if you’re talking about numbers then re read this article. Total thief sales on xbox platform is 60% and on playstation platform 37%. So the majority of sales come from xbox owners

          • datdude

xbox platform. Indeed. You know these microslop sheep are getting desperate when they follow the lead of the corporation, citing “platform” numbers because any direct comparison with the ps4 is pure slaughter. Microslop did the same in response to being outsold in both hardware and software in January. You sloppy sheep learn your lessons well. xbox platform. Hahahahahah…you have to laugh at these poor degenerates.

          • Cliff Giddens

Ok. Direct comparison. Ps4 sold 4.2 mil in 2013. Xbox one 3.9 mil. 300k difference. Ps4 started a week earlier and are in 53 countries while xbox one is in 13. Xbox one numbers are not out for January so how is the ps4 killing the xbox one? You know ps4 fannies are desperate when they constantly compare to xbox one instead of actually talking about a game they play

          • datdude

Hahahahha…this poor fool is citing the ps4 being available a week earlier…and completely ignoring the fact that the ps4 launched a week later in every territory except the U.S.!!! What a sheep!! This poor slob also somehow can’t comprehend that the xbone is being beaten in all 13 territories it’s available in…every. single. one. Period. I have no idea where this sloppy sheep gets his sales numbers from, but they must be from the Microsoft camp of denial and subterfuge. The ps4 is sold out of stock everywhere, and xbone Day One bundles are still available. Yet this slob is still in denial. Go get your shinebox. You’re done here.

          • Cliff Giddens

wow! now that you’re done your incoherent rant. Your numbers are wrong. You must be under aged? not an insult I’m just assuming because you’re telling me I’m wrong about the 3.9 mil? where are you getting your numbers from? other people like yourself on YouTube or the internet? I’m an investor in Sony and MS stock. I was on the earnings calls for both companies. Xbox one was at $3.9 mil at the end of 2013 only 300K behind the PS4. I can show you the earnings report. MS’ stock went up after the earnings call. Sony’s stock went down. Please don’t give fake numbers. As I said before. Check the earnings report for factual numbers and just don’t regurgitate what others are saying.

          • datdude

Ohh you poor confused sheep!!! Hahahah…let me enlighten you sheep…that 3.9 million number your confused mind keeps spouting is units shipped to retailers, not sold to consumers. You really need an intelligence infusion. Wake up sheep. Even you can’t truly be this dense. You’re being slaughtered, stay down.

  • Mikeherp Derp

Not a surprise, PS4 probably has nearly twice the install base. Not sure on exact UK numbers but it outsold Xbox 1.5:1 in Jan 2014 according to Sony UK.

With Plants vs Zombies out and Titanfall on the way Thief simply isn’t as desired for XB1 owners.

      What a pathetic excuse

    • Andre Crawford

      This is true….sorry

    • datdude

Yes infectedasstec…I guess that explains every other multiplatform title also selling better on ps4. Nighty night turd slug, nighty night.

      • Steph

Turd slug eh? Hah I pinned ur age down pat.

    • You are flat out wrong

They’re both MP only games. What if you don’t want an MP only game?
