Watch Dogs PS3 vs PS4 Comparison Video Shows The Limitation Of A Cross-Gen Title

Watch Dogs is going to officially launch today. The game is a brand new IP from Ubisoft, set in the city of Chicago. Players will take control of a hacker named Aiden Pearce, who has the ability to hack into the network connected to the city called ctOS. This allows him to manipulate various electronics equipment and use them to accomplish his mission.

If you are wondering about the difference between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 version of the game (PS4 vs Xbox One here), you can take a look at the video below, courtesy of YouTube user palbo nerru.

In this comparison, the most apparent one is that Lighting is completely different in both version of the game. It is dynamic lighting on the PS4 version while it seems to lack the same effect on the PS3 version, looking rather bland. Textures also seem to be pared back down on the PS3 version. The PS4 also has a stronger AO implementation, which seems to be missing in the PS3 version of the game. There are other factors to consider here as well like the lower level-of-detail, draw distance and lower quality shadows.

Watch Dogs is a good looking game and definitely a decent port on the PS3, but it is not a bad looking game by any means on the PS4. It still looks pretty good for an open world game featuring a living, breathing (figuratively) city, and the dynamism it allows results in some unqiue gameplay moments.

Watch Dogs will be out today on the PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

turn up the brightness. I hate when they compare and contrast 2 differently lighted pics, if you want a real comparison make the brightness the same. It’s like the before and after of some skin treatment.. and the person is always smiling in the after picture.. of course they look better. they’re smiling.. lol ridiculous..

This game looks rediculously dated on every platform, including PC. We’ve seen Ryse and we’ve seen infamous SS, this is an absolutely hideous game compared to the 2012 reveal.

The PS3 version of the game looks absolutely terrible. You won’t realize it until you get outside and behind the wheel of a car. I cannot believe this is the same group that released black flag. I’m not kidding when I say GTA 3, yeah 3, looks better. Please rethink purchasing this game on PS3. I have not been this disappointed in a game EVER. It might be beautiful on PS4.

What about the water rendering in the two consoles?

Water rendering is awful on PS3. This is probably the worst thing about the PS3 port. The graphics generally are good enough, but not as good as GTA5 or AC4.
