Watch Dogs PS3 vs PS4 Comparison Video Shows The Limitation Of A Cross-Gen Title

Watch Dogs is going to officially launch today. The game is a brand new IP from Ubisoft, set in the city of Chicago. Players will take control of a hacker named Aiden Pearce, who has the ability to hack into the network connected to the city called ctOS. This allows him to manipulate various electronics equipment and use them to accomplish his mission.

If you are wondering about the difference between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 version of the game (PS4 vs Xbox One here), you can take a look at the video below, courtesy of YouTube user palbo nerru.

In this comparison, the most apparent one is that Lighting is completely different in both version of the game. It is dynamic lighting on the PS4 version while it seems to lack the same effect on the PS3 version, looking rather bland. Textures also seem to be pared back down on the PS3 version. The PS4 also has a stronger AO implementation, which seems to be missing in the PS3 version of the game. There are other factors to consider here as well like the lower level-of-detail, draw distance and lower quality shadows.

Watch Dogs is a good looking game and definitely a decent port on the PS3, but it is not a bad looking game by any means on the PS4. It still looks pretty good for an open world game featuring a living, breathing (figuratively) city, and the dynamism it allows results in some unqiue gameplay moments.

Watch Dogs will be out today on the PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
