Watch_Dogs will run at 30fps on PlayStation 4/Xbox One, resolution not cofirmed yet [Update]

By -

Jonathan Morin, creative director for Watch_Dogs, has confirmed that the game will run at 30fps on both PS4 and Xbox One.

Talking to VideoGamer at Eurogamer Expo, Jonathan Morin said:

Right now the frame rate we’re focussing on [is] a steady 30[FPS]…

There’s always a balance, especially for open world, between the simulation and the rest…

I think for where we are, the most important thing is the steadiness and [ensuring] that it’s always capped the same so when you play it it feels right.

Even after confirming the game will run at 30fps for both next-gen platforms, Jonathan Morin couldn’t confirm whether the game would run at 720p or 1080p resolution. Ubisoft is very optimistic of it’s new IP stating that it can spawn a whole series of games. We don’t know if this means that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will also suffer the same fate as Watch_Dogs in terms of FPS.

Watch_Dogs is slated to release on November 22nd 2013 for PC, Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 & Xbox One platforms. However the PlayStation 4 version will be released on November 29th.

Update: According to a recent update, new info has come from unnamed sources; Watch_Dogs on PlayStation 4 has been confirmed to be running on 1080p while Xbox One version resolution is still “To Be Decided”

what’s that about next gen beating PC performance at a bargain? Isn’t happening. Consoles will never be able to out-perform a PC built at the same price. Denial is ignorance.

    • doctorpankake

Especially not with the more expensive games and costlier repairs / internet service.

Honestly, people! You’ll have to buy yourself a computer in this day and age anyways. Why not just put the console budget towards your PC and get one single device that does everything better? Doesn’t mean you can’t use your TV. You can run a cable, wirelessly broadcast, or even buy a budget Ouya/Roku.

      • Ali Moin

That one single device that does everything doesn’t have top exclusives such as Heavy Rain, The Last Of Us, Uncharted etc just to name a few.

      • Fuck it.

I hate PC ignorance. Not all people who play console games don’t do PC gaming? There are games that are console exclusive and people who just like playing consoles in general. There are maybe 2 games that my PC can’t run 60 fps on ultra and I am personally getting next gen.

Well people (such as me) travel a lot and would need a laptop regardless of whether or not we have desktops. So having a console and a PC gives more variety than two PCs.

People who don’t want to faff about with PC stuff. Im not saying its rocket science, but console gaming IS easier PC.

PCs are a less balanced platform. because someone might be able to out-play you purely because they have a better machine and it’s easier to cheat

A lot of people (such as myself) find gamepads a lot more comfortable than KB/M and dont want o be at a disadvantage for using them. Also, personally, I find KB/M sooooo uncomfortable that I can only use them for a few hours at a time. To compare I can easily play Halo 4 (a game I dont really like that much) for 7 hours straight. whereas I can only play League of Legends for about 3 hours at a time even though I really enjoy it.

Console games are more sociable. because of split screen and they are easier to LAN. and because everything is in one place, if I wanna play with someone I just have to check my XBL friends list and then go from there, whereas on PC I may have to check Steam, Origin, Uplay and Skype to find someone

I could list few other reasons but yeah, I think you get the point.

That is rubbish, you give us PC gamers all a bad name with your trolling. I am a PC gamer and console gamer and there is no way a new £350 PC would match the graphics on a £350 PS4, you would have to spend nearer >£700 on a self built rig to match performance of optimised PS4 games, so the PS4 is very good price for the performance it offers.

Just buy a PC, there is no limitations to FPS and you don’t have to deal with the shitty graphics without Anti-aliasing.

    • kupomogli

There’s no limitations as long as your graphics card is powerful enough. Most people who talk about how powerful the PC version is and how the console versions will never be able to touch PC on ultra are people who can barely get 30fps themselves on medium settings.

You must have mistaken my brother here for someone who buys a Dell computer.

        • doctorpankake

Believe it or not…. a PC gamer would be 100% happy with a Dell assuming the following conditions were met:

          1. It was already sufficient in every way
          2. They add a graphics card that’s around a Radeon HD 7770 or better
          3. They do a REFORMAT and REINSTALL of Windows before installing Steam and participating in the master race activities
          4. They have a sufficient mouse. Any full-sized $30+ Logitech will do the trick.

You don’t sound like you know what you’re talking about, AND you’re speaking on the behalf of an entire demographic.

If I were to buy a prebuilt computer, the most significant conditions needed to be met are:

            Cost/efficiency/quality ratio –

The parts better be comparatively equal; no decent CPU like an i5 3570, and large storage like 2TB HDD!.. but at 5400 rpm, mixed with a damn GTS 450 or something similar. A card like that would render the other, more powerful stuff, practically useless as a gaming platform. Not to make mention of quality of some of the slightly less significant components, cooling, etc. That’s the quality and compatibility, and it comes down to also being competitively priced – it would have to be similarly priced to all the same parts being bought individually.

Reformat and reinstall? Any PC gamer, even leaning on the casual side, could and probably would rather do that themselves, or, if not wanting specific storage applications, etc., just having a fresh install without bloatware would do. That stipulation would be extremely low on the list of stipulations for a PC gamer considering actually going with a prebuilt.

Not a lot of PC gamers would “be 100% happy” with a Dell considering everything you mention is already found with many, many prebuilt distributors. The price to quality ratio is easily most important, and you don’t even mention it.

I meant to say newcomer, sorry. I’ll edit that in.

Welcome to the “next” generation. how are these things already outdated? Seriously.. I’m tired of sub 60 FPS to get moderately higher res textures. All these games should be running at 60/1080 at least. I’m really tryin to get on board with this next generation but it’s harder and harder to justify shelling for a new console that can’t handle what my computer is capable of doing. Watch Dogs, another game being put on my PC list because that’s where it’ll most likely look and perform the best..

    • Jacob

      There’s always the next “next-generation” ;)
(Just gotta wait about 7-10 more years)
