The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt On PS4 Pro Runs At 4K Resolution With Improved Visuals

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has received a brand new update recently for the PS4 Pro. This update will officially add support for the PS4 Pro and higher rendering resolution among other improvements. This update is also being planned for the Xbox One X version of the game and will launch at the end of the year once the console is out.

Digital Foundry has recently conducted an analysis on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the PS4 Pro and compared the game unpatched without official support running with Boost Mode against a patched version of Witcher 3 updated to the latest version. The results seems to have surpassed their expectations as the game runs at 4K checkerboard resolution. Horizon Zero Dawn was another one of the PS4 Pro enhanced game that ran at this resolution so it is an impressive feat from CD Project Red.

The other improvements to the visuals aside from the resolution increase is for texture filtering and ambient occlusion. Both of these now match the higher quality settings on PC. The downside to some of these improvements it the decrease in frame rate that can drop down in some intensive areas, although there is also an improvement in the performance for CPU heavy areas with a lot of NPCs on screen.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
