According to Activision Blizzard, a TV series or movie based on their game Overwatch might be coming soon. The game was released in May this year for PS4, Xbox One and PC, and has soon become one of the fan favorites.
Overwatch has been developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, who is known for some of the best PC games in the business. Games like World of Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft have been delivered by Blizzard over the years, making them a successful dev house.
Talking to BBC Newsbeat, co-president of Activision Blizzard Studios, Stacey Sher said that they are planning on releasing a TV series or movie based on Overwatch, but this project still needs time and thinking.
“We’re going to do more but we’re going to move very carefully and thoughtfully. We’re going to pick the best medium be it film, TV or shorts – the one that best serves each franchise individually.”
According to Acti-Blizz, their main reason for putting all this effort into this project is because they want their fans to be happy. Stacey Sher said in the interview that we know that filmed entertainment engages people in a very different way as compared to games, people feel a bond with movie characters, something games cannot do.
Although no official dates or specifics have been announced by Activision Blizzard, the fact that they are open to this prospect is still exciting. All we can do is wait!
