Activision might be looking on to purchase Take Two

Industry rumors are firing up on full cylinders and are suggesting that Call of Duty and Destiny publisher might be preparing a bid to buy Take Two. Activision made a $2 Billion bid for the Grand Theft Auto publisher back in 2008 but it was turned down by the Take Two Board of Directors.

According to analyst Mike Hickey, both of the industry powerhouses are trying to get into Movies, so teaming up was something he described as a “no brainer”. Activision specifically he said are known to have “deep connections to Hollywood,” which could have both the publisher bring their franchises to the big screen. A GTA movie, which has been rumored for a long time now could possibly come into fruition due to this deal.

If the deal actually does come through, Hickey was quick to point out that Activision would own three of the biggest studios in the gaming industry namely Rockstar Games, Bungie and Blizzard. He also pointed out that annualizing some of Take Two’s properties could prove to be difficult. Games like Grand Theft Auto and Bioshock currently take up several years of development time, while Activision properties like Call of Duty get yearly releases.

What do you think of this possible buyout? Could such a big publisher cause problems in the industry? Do you want your favorite Take Two franchises to be analyzed? Lets discuss in the comments below.
