Studio Wildcard has made a surprise announcement at GDC 2018 and confirmed that ARK: Survival Evolved will launch for the Nintendo Switch. They haven’t given a release date or time frame for it but they did show a tiny snippet of gameplay footage running on the Nintendo Switch in the portable mode.
The video footage below shows the game looking pretty good, especially in term of the visuals. The frame rate seems to be fluctuating constantly and doesn’t appear to hit stable 30 fps, which is their target. It can’t be denied that running this game alone on the Nintendo Switch should be considered a miracle since it barely runs on the PS4, Xbox One and even high end PC.
Even though the video footage looks nice, the screenshots that were shared from the pre-alpha version don’t seem to be that flattering to look at next to the video.
Studio Wildcard has said that the Nintendo Switch version should compare favorably against the PS4 and Xbox One version of the game, although it seems highly likely considering the huge gulf in hardware power between these platforms.
ARK: Survival Evolved launched as an early access game on Steam and Xbox Live and was finally released as a full retail game while adding PS4 as a platform. It also supports the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X while a mobile version of the game on a custom engine is also available to play for those who can’t wait for the Switch version for portable experience.
