Atari Announces Reboot Of Two Horror Classics

Due to some reason, horror games have seen a gradual increase in popularity with games such as Outlast, Amnesia, Alien etc all providing a horror sequel after their initial success. Atari have followed the same path as they have announced the remake of two horror classics, Haunted House and Alone In The Dark!

The ‘re imagined’ version of the 1992 classic would be called Alone In The Dark: Illumination.  It would be developed by a rather unknown, Los Angeles based developer, Pure. Not much information is available at the moment other then the expected release date of “Autumn 2014” as mentioned on the official teaser site. AITD had a reboot in 2008 for the major consoles but it failed to live up to the hype.

The second game retains the same name of the early 80’s classic “Haunted House”. The game would be developed by DreamPainters, an Italy based developer most renowned for  their work on Anna, another horror title for PCs. Haunted house is expected to be released in fall this year as evident from its teaser site. There was a reboot of the game in 2010 for PC and Xbox 360 but it was also unable to send chills down the same like the original game did.

No other information is available at this moment. It is also not known for which platforms this reboot is planned to make its way on.More details are expected to be provided at PAX later this month.

After a failed reboot of both these titles, maybe second time is the charm? Only time will tell. We’ll keep you updated when more details become available.
