Bandai Namco Puts Tekken X Street Fighter Development On Hold

Tekken X Street Fighter is a long announced project that was supposed to arrive on the PS3 and Xbox 360 after the release of Street Fighter X Tekken. This was a major collaboration project between Bandai Namco and Capcom. Unfortunately Street Fighter X Tekken proved to be a major flop for Capcom and might have put the project at risk for Bandai Namco.

Tekken Producer Katsuhiro Harada was recently interviewed by GameSpot, and he shared some new details on the future of the project.

“When we develop fighting games, we try to keep the core community in mind as well as the wider audience that wants to play these games,” Harada explained. “But currently the situation is with fighting games, you have Street Fighter V that just released–a lot of people are playing that fervently–and there’s a large crowd out there waiting or Tekken 7, ” Harada told GameSpot.

“We don’t want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release Tekken x Street Fighter is something that’s become difficult recently. So it’s on hold for the moment.”

Bandai Namco is currently hard at work on releasing Tekken 7 for the PS4 and Xbox One. The game was released on Arcade a while back and has received a new update called Fated Retribution. Surprisingly, Akuma from Street Fighter is a playable character in Tekken 7 so maybe some of the development work from Tekken X Street Fighter made its way into Tekken 7.
