Battlefield 1: More Concept Art Revealed For “They Shall Not Pass” DLC

After EA DICE revealed the first piece of art for the upcoming Battlefield 1 DLC “They Shall Not Pass” just a few days ago, the developers have now released even more concept images for the expansion.

The concept art, as seen below, is referred to as “Concept exploration images from the DICE team”, and offer a glimpse into the studio’s vision of what the new maps in the They Shall Not Pass expansion will look like. Burning forests, castle ruins and trenches, this DLC seems to have it all.

The blog post also goes on to provide some exposition about the inspiration behind these images and the timeline they will be set in.

One of these inspirations is the Battle of Verdun, one of the largest and longest battles of the First World War that was fought between the French and German armies.

Around 1 million shells were fired in the opening barrage of the Battle of Verdun. This created massive forest fires around the fortified city and the battlefields surrounding it. Soldiers tell stories of being able to see these fires from far away. We really wanted to capture this initial fighting in a battle that came to be known as the Devil’s Anvil.

The article goes into greater depth about the developer’s influences, which you can check out here. It should also be kept in mind that these are in fact concept images and do not reflect the state of the final product.
