Quake Champions was one of the most unexpected games unveiled at Bethesda’s E3 press conference, and it’s reveal has reignited a desire for classic arena based shooters. And now, Bethesda Softworks has released a new trailer for the game.
Tim Miller, Studio Director for id Software, explains the addition of Champions into the game as well as their abilities. Champions are basically the hero characters in Quake Champions and each one has a unique power known as an “Active Ability”. Miller states that the developers understand that each player tends to play Quake differently, and so they have designed the Champions and their active abilities to tailor to specific playstyles.
We are also introduced to 4 of the Champions that will be appearing in the game, Ranger (Quake 1), Visor (Quake III Arena), Nyx and Scalebearer.
Ranger’s active ability is the Dire Orb, which allows him to teleport to the location where he throws the orb.
Visor’s active ability is the Piercing Sight, which allows him to see through walls.
Nyx’s active ability is Phase, which allows her to become invulnerable for a short time
And finally, Scalebearer’s active ability is the Bull Rush, which is a powerful charge attack.
Quake Champions is the latest addition to the series since Enemy Territory: Quake Wars released back in 2007, and with it’s reveal, the Quake franchise has officially been bought back from the dead.
While no other information or a release date have been given yet, we do know that Quake Champions will not be coming to consoles. More information about the game will also be shared at this year’s QuakeCon.
