Octopath Traveler has reached the 1 million shipped milestone earlier this week. To celebrate this, Square Enix shared a new artwork from the game that featured the main cast of Octopath Traveler. The thing is, this artwork seems to continue a trend of teasing Bravely Default that begins all the way back with the launch of the Nintendo Switch.
If you look at the artwork side-by-side with the Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, you can see that it is almost similar in shape. This follows other vague teases for the Bravely Default including one of the characters holding JoyCon controllers and being in the background of another one of Octopath Traveler artwork.
This is entirely a fan theory for now, and it might seem far-fetched, but with the success of Octopath Traveler, it makes sense to bring back Bravely Default as well. It could mean either a new game or a re-release of the first two Bravely Default games for the Nintendo Switch, which were also developed and published by Square Enix and Nintendo.
Update: The official Bravely Default Twitter has now shared a cryptic new tweet that simply says to keep an eye out for Square Enix Business Division 11’s new project. This is the same division that worked on Ocotpath Traveler and Bravely Default.
Bravely Default was a turn-based JRPG that managed to find great success on the Nintendo 3DS. It sold through 1 million copies worldwide making it a surprise hit for Square Enix leading to a sequel. Although the sequel sadly didn’t manage to reach the same sales milestone, it was still a worthy successor. This was followed by a mobile game that launched exclusively in Japan.
