May 11th the developers of Civilization VI released a trailer for their upcoming release. For Civilization VI to be the strongest civilization possible, Firaxis is bringing in new features and the game is expected to release on October 21, 2016. Cities are going to expand across the map, active research in technology and culture will unlock new technologies, and competing leaders will pursue their own agendas based on their historical traits. All of this while you try for world dominance. It’s a tricky balancing act to keep it all in motion, but some of the veteran players may understand it with ease. But it would seem this expansion is focused on the city itself.
A city’s surrounding countryside will still be a maximum of 36 hexes, but they will now host buildings and improvements, beyond farms, mines, camps, etc.; call these “districts.” With the new system for building cities from scratch you can take advantage of the land. A lot of your progression is actually dependent on where you are in the world. This should allow for some impressive dynamics for building on all sorts of terrain.
Typically Civilization (also known as Civ) has been a fairly complicated game, but Firaxis plans to use a new tutorial system to help new players more than ever. With explanations of how the new workings of the city come into play with your other aspects of advancement. Along with the changes to the alliance structure there will be instructions on how to make the most of your dealings with other alliances. This new Civilization is all about the city though. Make sure you pay attention to that.
It’s been 6 years since the last Civilization came out. Since then there has been tons of other games to take you to the stars and other galaxies. Civilization plans to bring the humans back to earth to make trade, engage in war, and bring peace once again. Are you ready?
