Crash Bandicoot Trilogy Renders At 720p On Nintendo Switch, Native 4K On Xbox One X

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is available now for the Xbox One, PC and, Nintendo Switch. This is the first time the trilogy has been released for these platforms after it launched as a timed PS4 exclusive last year.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy also supports the Xbox One X with a native 4K resolution implemented for that platform. This is a big jump from the PS4 Pro which renders at native 1440p. Both platforms offer support for HDR as well, which is missing on the PC and Nintendo Switch version of the game.

In term of the technical makeup of the game for the Nintendo Switch, YouTube channel VGTech has now shared an analysis on the frame rate and performance of this port on all of the new platforms. According to them, the game runs at native 720p on the Switch in Docked mode while the portable resolution barely tops out at 480p. The performance of the game is also quite not as solid as the other platforms but it targets 30 fps.

PS4 renders at a native resolution of 1920×1080. PS4 Pro renders at a native resolution of 2560×1440 and this is downsampled when outputting at 1080p. Switch in Docked Mode renders at a native resolution of 1280×720 and in Portable Mode renders at a native resolution of approximately 853×480. Xbox One renders at a native resolution of 1920×1080 and Xbox One X renders at a native resolution of 3840×2160. The UI is rendered at 3840×2160 on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, 1920×1080 on PS4 and Xbox One, and 1280×720 on Switch in both Docked Mode and Portable mode.

The Switch in portable mode appears to run better than in docked mode, though the game can still occasionally drop below 30fps in portable mode during both gameplay and cutscenes. Some differences between the Switch version and the other consoles versions are that it has removed fur effects, removed reflections, uses some lower quality textures, has reduced effects during some explosions and has a shorter draw distance. Reflections seem to render at the same resolution on PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and Xbox One X.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is available now for the PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
