Dark Souls 2 will not release on next-gen consoles, Yui Tanimura confirms

Speaking to CVG, Dark Souls 2 producer Yui Tanimura has stated that they don’t have any plans – despite having discussions – to release the title on PS4 or next-box. Putting end to any rumors of that From Software are set to launch the sequel to Dark Souls on both current-gen and next-gen consoles.

Tanimimura stated in the interview “We wanted to deliver something to fans as soon as possible,” and, “We still feel there’s potential and ability for us to express a little bit more than what we did with Dark Souls, even on current-gen consoles. We hope to stay on current consoles, but express a little bit more, and elaborate on what we were able to communicate with Dark Souls.”

He then went on to add “Right now there’s no intent to have Dark Souls on next-gen.”

Of course, these things can change. But, for now Dark Souls 2 remains a current-gen title. If there is to be a change of heart at any point by From Software, we’ll be sure to let you know.
