Before Dark Souls, there was Demon’s Souls. It was much more complicated and difficult than all the Souls games prior it but it has been unfortunately restricted to just one platform.
In a new interview with GameInformer, Hidetaka Miyazaki was presented with the question of a possible Demon’s Souls remaster.
“It’s like when you write – when you’re younger, you look back on [previous work] and you think ‘Oh, goodness what was I thinking,’” says Miyazaki. “It’s not that I’m embarrassed, I just don’t like to look at my previous works.”
He also said that it is not entirely up to From Software to make it, Sony will have to agree with it too since they own the Demon’s Souls IP. “You’d have to see what they’re thinking about it.”
Of course, if a potential Demon’s Souls remaster happens, Miyazaki has no issue with any other studio handling it. Bluepoint Games are often brought up as one of the potential developers that can do justice to Demon’s Souls remaster.
“If it was a studio that really loved the original work and really put their heart and soul into realizing it again, then that’s something I would enjoy, but it’s really complicated because I have these fond memories. Thinking about the idea of a remaster gives me kind of butterflies in my stomach and makes me a little nervous, so it’s complicated. But I understand there are many users and many players and fans out there who really love Demon’s, so if that’s something they could accomplish with a studio that loved the work, then yeah, I’d be okay with that.”
So if there is a Demon’s Souls remaster in the works, it is likely going to be from Sony who can hire a developer like Bluepoint Games for it. It would be unfortunate to see this cult classic restricted to a single platform and the modern generation not being able to experience it.
