Bungie is currently performing a server maintenance for Destiny 2 and while the maintenance is pretty standard for the game, it appears to have been extended by another further 2 hours as revealed through an official tweet by the Bungie twitter account.
This is not the first time the server maintenance has faced some bumps along the way. During its launch week, Destiny 2 also suffered from an extended period of maintenance although Bungie has been rather quick to issue updates if this turns out to be the case. The latest update from Bungie confirms that the servers will remain under maintenance until 2 PM PST.
Destiny 2 server maintenance has been extended to 2 PM Pacific (9 PM UTC). Stay tuned for updates.

There is no reason given for this updated maintenance although some of the players do feel a sense of frustration since Destiny 2 is an online only game which means if the server goes down, you won’t be able to continue with the story or play through any of the other game modes.
Destiny 2 has been proven to be a smash hit for Activision Blizzard. The game had close to 1.3 million concurrent users during its launch week which is a new series record for Destiny. Bungie is also working on the PC version of the game which will launch with 4K support and 60 FPS.
