Destiny: Rise of Iron is a brand new expansion for the base game that adds tons of new content. Splicer Keys are new items that have been added in the expansion and are required by certain locations in order to unlock them. These keys can also unlock chests.
There is a trick to get Splicer Keys which can be found in random loot drops throughout the Plaguelands. If you want to see the locked areas that require Splicer Keys on the Plaguelands, you can check out the map from here.
To farm Splicer Keys, you will need to attempt the Iron Gjallarhorn Exotic Quest. You can find details about the quest from here.
Once you start the Gjallarhorn quest on your patrol of Plaguelands, head back to Archon’s Forge. When you die, you will have to use a Splicer Key to get back in. Instead of heading back, you can check out the secret locations in Plaguelands to open chests after killing the enemies. This method can be seen in the video below.

You can hold a gran total of 10 keys at a time per character and 10 keys in the vault. If you don’t get any drops, make sure to complete more story missions and quests in order to get the Splicer keys.
