Devil May Cry 5 is being directed by Hideaki Itsuno. He has previously worked on Devil May Cry 3 and 4 and more recently, he worked on the Special Edition for Devil May Cry 4.
In an interview with Inside Xbox, the director talked about the history of the project and how it all started. The game started immediately after the release of the Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition. Initially, their plans were to release the special edition of Devil May Cry 4 after its launch, just like it happened with Devil May Cry 3. They weren’t able to do it for years however once they finished their work on the Special Edition, the team wanted to create another mainline game.
Hideaki Itsuno was told by his supervisors that they will need to find a new look for the game for the current generation and they decided to settle on photo-realistic visuals. The game will feature Nero as the lead protagonist and he has a robot arm now. There are 3 playable characters in the game.
Lastly, in his closing comments, Itsuno said: “I’m confident that what we’ve made will exceed even your [fans] expectations.” He confirmed that the game will be playable at the upcoming Gamescom.
Devil May Cry 5 is set to launch in early 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is being developed on the RE Engine and will be published by Capcom.
