Square Enix Japan held an event today to announce what the future holds for the Dragon Quest franchise, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary next year. What got everyone tuned in was obviously the announcement of the new mainline entry in the franchise, Dragon Quest XI, which logo leaked just a day before. Dragon Quest XI will be coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS and, surprisingly, the yet to be revealed NX. Below you can see the main character of the game.
Dragon Quest XI is directed by Takeshi Uchikawa and Koichi Sugiyama will return to compose the Soundtrack(really happy about this). The game will be developed on Unreal Engine 4 on PS4, which is being done with the assistance of Orca. The 3DS version will be developed by ToyLogic. Both the versions will share the same story.
From what we saw the game is still in early development, but it will be released in 2016, to celebrate the 30th anniversary.
Update: According to Ryutaro Ichimura, DQXI will be released simultaneously in Japan on PS4 and 3DS:
