Dragon Quest XI Confirmed To Use Denuvo DRM On PC

Dragon Quest XI will be available on September 4th for both PC and PS4. It is the first mainline Dragon Quest game to launch on PC and it utilizes Unreal Engine 4. Steam has updated the store page for the game recently and the new update confirms that this will utilize the notorious Denuvo DRM on PC.

Dragon Quest XI is a single player game with next to no online elements in it. The restriction of Denuvo DRM is no surprise since this also happened with Final Fantasy XV, but at least the game had some form of online connectivity which isn’t the case here.

Denuvo DRM is now used in most major third party games but sometimes it can also be removed with a future update. Shenmue 1 & 2 was confirmed to use Denuvo DRM but it was later removed with an update before the launch of the game. Square Enix still hasn’t done it to any of their games so don’t expect to see the same for Dragon Quest XI, which is a shame since the game is absolutely fantastic.
