E-Sports: Russia’s Third Richest Man invests in Virtus.pro

Russia’s third and world’s 71st richest man,  Alisher Usmanov, has invested $100 million in Virus Pro through his company USM Holdings. Team Virtus.pro revealed this news earlier today in a press conference. USM Holdings manages Russian mobile phone companies like MegaFone and they also control state-owned gas company named as ‘GazProm’.  Moreover, the invested amount could even surpass $100 million in the near future according to the press conference. Alisher Usmanov mentioned that the purpose of this investment is to increase the popularity of e-sports in Russia.


According to Forbes, Alisher Usmanov has a total net worth of #13.4 billion and he also invested his money in Sochi XXII Olympic Winter games 2014. A member of the Board of Directors of USM Holdings, Ivan Streshinky, mentioned that the players of Virtus.pro are in a good form and they are dominating the e-sports industry in the world. He further mentioned that eSports is a unique proposition which has a deep impact on the media and internet industries.

Co-owner and Managing Partner of Virtus.pro said in a press conference,

Our main goal is to increase the popularity of e-sports in Russia, and this is what USM’s investment will go towards. The funds will primarily be used to launch new tournaments and various new gaming disciplines, as well to create media channels to cover the sport and to construct e-sports arenas.
