No Man’s Sky is almost upon us, but many fans are still confused as to what exactly there is to do in the universe.
In a blog post, Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games, addresses these concerns and gives us an overview of the features present in the game, as well as what we can look forward to in the future.
In the post he explains that No Man’s Sky may not exactly be what a lot of people wanted it to be. Things like PVP multiplayer or city building are not what the game is about, but Sean mentions that over time it could become about those things. He mentions although the game will launch as everything the trailers and the gameplay videos promised it would be, a procedural sci-fi-space-survival-sandbox, it could evolve over time to become something much more.
Below is a list of thing that will be present in No Man’s Sky:
- Exploring a universe of pretty procedurally generated worlds, with beautiful creatures.
- Trading with NPCs.
- Combat against robots/mechs and cool space battles.
- Survival/crafting in a universe sized sandbox.
- An awesome procedural soundtrack from 65daysofstatic.
- For one small moment, you might feel like you’ve stepped into a sci-fi book cover.
In the patch notes for the game’s first update, Sean Murray also mentions the addition of two new features coming to the game sometime in the future, base building and owning giant space freighters. Finally, he mentions that the game’s audience will be super decisive and have mixed opinions, saying that “This game might not be for everyone”.
No Man’s Sky is set to release on the 9th and 12th of August for the PlayStation 4 and PC respectively. The game’s soundtrack was also recently made available online, which you can check out here.
